Family Size

1.What are the trends in the size of families in Britain? How have the trends changed from the past up to now?
Acrossing study the size of families in Britrain,I have learned some types of families, construct of families, and why the bigger familiy is very normal before in Britain ,but now they changed. When I looking at the graphs of population on the class, I recognised the size of families in Britrain they are changing now,at the moment family size in Britain became more and more small, they donot have so many children in family, more and more families just have two or three kids,or some families they do not have kids. For explam,I asked my roomate, his family is typical walse family, his grandpa has five kids ,his mother has three kids, his sister just marride ,but they dont want to have a baby, I think there are several reasons for families why they change from past up to now, first of all,in the past the standard of living is not too high,if you want to have a better life you must have more labours in your family,so they could have a lot of kids, when they grow up they can go to work, but now standard of living is much better, people changed their mind, samll family and unclear family become more and more popular.

2.What impact will changes in family size have on an ageing population?
I'm not too sure about this question, I think if the family size become more and more small,so the ageing population will not increased quickly,so the goverment will not need cost a lot of money for the ageing population.

Hi Michelle

You are right. The family is getting smaller in Britain. People are chosing to have smaller families. This gives them the opportunity to have a better quality of life. Also, having a large family is expensive!

What do you think about couples choosing not to have a family? What if everyone decided not to have a family? What would happen to our society?
